Natural Home Remedies
Cayenne-
Vitamins- vitamin C, rich in vitamin A, iron, copper, zinc,
potassium, manganese, magnesium, & selenium.
What it’s good for- Anti-Inflammatory (also relieves allergies), upset
stomach, sore throat, breaks up mucus, & gets rid of irritating coughs.
How to use it- 1 cup of hot water, ½ tsp. ground cayenne. Drink this 2-3 times a day and it will
relieve the worst sore throats. It’s
also a great seasoning for cooking!
Lemons-
Vitamins- One lemon contains 15 grams, or 2% of the recommended daily
allowance of calcium. Potassium, vitamin
A, vitamin C, B vitamins, & copper.
What it’s good for- Reduces fevers, sooths sore throats, helps with
fatigue, quenches your thirst faster than water, can eliminate food poisoning,
& can act as a natural bug spray.
How to use it- For fever and
chills: Juices of 1 lemon, 1 cup hot water, 2-3 tbsp. honey. Drink every 2 hours until fever/chills subside. This combination can sooth or eliminate sore
throats. Food poisoning: 4 freshly
squeezed lemons (NO WATER ADDED), and some honey (or sugar) for sweetening. Should get rid of food poisoning within 30
minutes.
Natural bug spray: 20 drops of lemon essential oils, 1 cup of
water, and spray into the air or on plants to repel bugs.
Aloe Vera-
Vitamins- Amino acids, enzymes, vitamin A, vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5,
B6, B12, vitamin C, vitamin E, magnesium, potassium, & folic acid.
What it’s good for- Can be used on wounds to prevent infection and
accelerate healing. Helps with
constipation, or irregularity.
How to use it- Add the Aloe Vera gel to smoothies for breakfast. When treating a wound: clean wound
thoroughly, apply the pulp in the wound, wrap tightly with a bandage, keep
bandage soaked in Aloe Vera juice. This
will help it heal quickly with minimal to no scarring, and will reduce the
chance of infection.
Apple Cider Vinegar-
What it’s good for- Heals and sooths sunburns, works as an antibiotic, and
it can help with digestion.
How to use it- For heartburn, or uncomfortable stomach acid add 1 Tbsp.
apple cider vinegar to 1 glass of water and drink.
WARNING- Never drink apple cider vinegar without diluting it.
Garlic-
Vitamins- A, B, B2, and C, calcium and zinc.
What its good for- Boosts immune system, reduces cholesterol, is a
natural antibiotic, can ward off coughs and colds when taking the
supplements.
How to use it- To treat coughs fill ½ cup of vegetable broth, a few drops
of apple cider vinegar, and 2 cloves of garlic minced finely. Heat slightly and drink every 2 hours.
Pine Needle Tea-
Vitamins- High in vitamins A and C. One cup of pine needle tea may supply
five times as much vitamin C as you would get from one cup of orange
juice.
What its good for- Colds and coughs.
How to use it-
To prepare pine needle tea, pick a handful of pine needles. Remove the
papery brown coverings at the ends and chop the needles into 1/2 inch pieces.
Pour a cup of very hot -- but not boiling -- water over a tablespoon of chopped
needles. Let the infusion steep for ten minutes. Strain and drink. Sweeten with
honey if desired.
Peppermint
Tea-
Vitamins- It’s an
antioxidant, has vitamin A, beta carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, & vitamin
K.
What its good for- Sooths
stomach cramps, and upset stomach.
Improves circulation in the body.
Helps to relieve nausea.
How to use it- Take it in tea form.
Oatmeal-
Vitamins- High in fiber, protein,
manganese, potassium, and calcium.
What it’s good for- Great for
the skin, heals rashes, sooths redness.
Lowers cholesterol, keeps you regular, and can prevent the growth of
cancer.
How to use it-
Face mask recipe- Ingredients: 2 tablespoons old-fashioned oats
2 tablespoons hot water
1/2 tablespoon honey
1. Put the
oats in a food processor on the finest setting, and process it into powder.
2. Pour into
a small bowl and stir in hot water and honey. Let stand for 5 minutes.
3. Wash face
with warm water. While skin is still damp, massage paste onto face, circling
around eyes and mouth. Leave on for 10 minutes.
4. Remove
with tepid water and a washcloth. Apply your favorite moisturizer to seal the
deal and set the glow.
Marigold-
Vitamins- A,
C, & E.
What its good
for- Only the flower
heads are used medicinally. Helps with headaches, good for eye
health, has antiseptic properties (heals wounds), balances your monthly cycle,
detoxifies the digestive system, can safely detoxify the urinary tract, helps
calm the digestive system.
How to use it- It can be
eaten by itself, taken as a supplement, or made into a tea.
Honey, Royal jelly, Bee pollen, & Propolis-
Royal Jelly has every
nutrient needed to support life. Here is
a quote from Food Matters about bee pollen, “Bee
pollen is one of the most complete food found in nature, and has five to seven
times more protein than beef. It is
especially beneficial for the extra nutritional and energy needs of athletes
and those recovering from illness. It is
a natural antidote for fighting allergies particularly hay fever and
sinusitis. Research shows that pollen
counteracts the signs of aging and increases both mental and physical
capability.” Propolis has powerful
antibiotic properties it can protect against bacteria, and strengthen your
immune system.
How to use it- You can
find supplements that include royal jelly, bee pollen, and Propolis all in one
capsule! Raw honey is the best. Raw honey contains
pollen and still has all of the nutrients whereas processed honey almost all of
the nutrients have been killed off.
